Transformasi Iman Gideon: Telaah Teologis atas Dinamika Ketakutan dan Ketaatan dalam Hakim-hakim 7:1-25

Abstract: This research examines the dynamics of fear and obedience in Gideon's faith journey as depicted in Judges 7:1–25. This narrative shows that the process of faith formation does not happen suddenly, but through experiences that challenge human ability and sense of security. Using a qualitative approach through theological-narrative analysis, this study examines the structure of the story, the historical background, and God's role in shaping Gideon's response. The research findings indicate that the reduction of the Israelite army, the affirmation through the Midianite soldier's dream, and the unconventional warfare strategy were pedagogical means used by God to cultivate Gideon's dependence on Him. Gideon's transformation is evident when he shifts from doubt to courage and leads Israel to victory, affirming divine sovereignty. These findings affirm that God works through human weakness to produce obedience born from faith deepened by the experience of His presence.
Abstrak: Penelitian ini menelaah dinamika ketakutan dan ketaatan dalam perjalanan iman Gideon sebagaimana ditampilkan dalam Hakim-hakim 7:1–25. Narasi ini menunjukkan bahwa proses pembentukan iman tidak terjadi secara tiba-tiba, tetapi melalui pengalaman-pengalaman yang menantang kemampuan dan rasa aman manusia. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui analisis teologis-naratif, penelitian ini mengkaji struktur cerita, latar historis, dan peran Allah dalam membentuk respons Gideon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa reduksi pasukan Israel, peneguhan melalui mimpi prajurit Midian, serta strategi peperangan yang tidak lazim merupakan sarana pedagogis Allah untuk menumbuhkan ketergantungan Gideon kepada-Nya. Transformasi Gideon tampak ketika ia beralih dari keraguan menuju keberanian dan memimpin Israel dalam kemenangan yang menegaskan kedaulatan ilahi. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa Allah bekerja melalui kelemahan manusia untuk menghasilkan ketaatan yang lahir dari iman yang diperdalam oleh pengalaman akan penyertaan-Nya.
