Abstract: This research discusses the concept of "Power Tends to Corrupt" in the context of government, focusing on the Book of 1 Samuel 8. Through the literature study method, the narrative in the Book of 1 Samuel 8 describing the Israelites' request for a king is analysed. The understanding that "Power Tends to Corrupt" emerges through the prophet Samuel's warning against the risk of corruption and abuse of power that can occur in the selection of a human king. This study highlights how power, when concentrated in a single entity, can change the dynamics of leaders and society. The analysis shows that the desire for greater power opens the door to potential abuses, structural changes, and conflicts between human leadership and divine authority. The results of this study provide an in-depth perspective on the ethical and moral challenges of granting power and its impact on people's daily lives. The modern implications of the concept "Power Tends to Corrupt" are revealed as a relevant warning for the contemporary context of governance, emphasising the importance of prudent governance and ethical considerations in approaching the concentration of power.
